A Note from Joa
As I get ready to move on from PeachyKeen, I have been reflecting on what…
PeachyKeen has delivered a fun packed, 30 minute input on Reduce – Reuse – Recycle for a Fife Primary School using their Junior Pod and a Balloon Inflation machine to demonstrate energy usage to an enthusiastic, happy class of primary three children.
The original Junior Pod designed for the BBC’s Nina and the Neurons, Brilliant Bodies episode along with a 1940’s Portable Milking Machine, which has been restored as a Balloon Inflation machine, were used as examples to meet the learning theme.
The children subsequently used their imaginations to draw their own human powered creations and presented them to PeachyKeen.

Coaltown of Balgonie Primary School has called upon PeachyKeen human energy based educational activities to help promote their journey to school plan.
Working closely with the school, we designed and developed our Helter Skelter Water Chute to help the primary school pupils to understand the effects of pumping water against gravity with an competitive element.
The activity proved to be a fantastic means of bringing together pupils, parents and the local residents, again in a relaxed fashion to promote an initiative that would benefit the whole community.

PeachyKeen developed a unique interactive experience to enable schools to create an educational tool to physically let children gauge how much of their energy is required to create electricity.
We connected our PeachyKeen Pods and our Handcranks to different types of lighting and light bulbs and enabled children to generate the required energy to power each unit.
This exciting experience enabled teachers to practically link their lessons with fun, interactive activities that allows for the different forms of learning styles, providing methods for children to work things out for themselves in a supervised and safe manner.
The event also emphasises just how energy efficient light bulbs have become.
Feedback from the schools showed how successful it was within the context of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics).

Children from Capshard Primary School shone bright by marking Earth Hour in a unique and novel way by generating their own electricity with Andrew Bowie of PeachyKeen.
We designed a unique interactive experience which required pupils to use their pedal power to illuminate a light tower and view a DVD.
The educational experience was seen to be a major success with pupils able to understand the relation between energy and powering every day items such as lights and TV.
The event was also marked by everyone wearing bright, sparkly clothes and odd socks, to celebrate the lives of our special children.
Nearly £400 was raised and children decided proceeds will go to WWF, Moebius Trust, Downs Syndrome and Guide Dogs for the Blind.
